Taproot
The main root of a plant, which plunges straight down to anchor it; the swollen taproots of carrots are the most familiar. Most trees have them too, and resent them being damaged.

Thrips

Tree
A woody plant, often very tall and large but not always, with only one main stem and very rarely more. See also Shrub.

Tree Fern
A fern with a straight, erect stem usually reaching a height of more than 6ft (1.8m) or sometimes as much as 50ft (15m) tall, bearing at its apex a crown of large fronds. Most of the world’s tree ferns belong to the genera Cyathea, Cibotium or Dicksonia and come from high-rainfall regions of the tropics and subtropics.

Truss
Used for certain inflorescences with a tight grouping of large flowers held above the foliage, as in many rhododendron hybrids.

Tuber
A fat, starchy underground organ designed to store food for a plant during its dormancy. Many tubers, such as those of the potato, provide food for humans too.

Tuberous Root
A root that is swollen to resemble a tuber, as in Dahlias. Most root tubers will not sprout again when cut away, unless a small piece of the stem or rootstock is taken as well.
