3 Ways to Improve Your Mood

We all experience our ups and downs. Life can really be hard sometimes, but it’s how you deal with the many inconveniences that can really be the difference between contentment and depression. It’s important to be resilient and to make positive, self-improvement decisions. Check below for five ways to improve your mood.

1.Take a deep breath.

This is one of the quickest ways to give yourself a mood boost when you are under heavy stress. All you need to do is sit up straight, place your right hand onto your stomach and your left hand on your chest. Then take in a deep breath. Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Your right hand should be moving with your abdomen and your left hand should not be moving. Do this for several deep, slow breaths. This will lower your adrenaline and cortisol levels, resulting in a better mood.

2.Exercise.

Most of know that exercising has numerous physical benefits, but it also has numerous psychological benefits. Both aerobic and weightlifting are known to release endorphins, which are your body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Studies have also shown that in as little as one workout you brain levels of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine will increase, leaving you feeling overall less depressed. Your workouts don’t have to be strenuous to boost your mood either, just going for a brisk walk or doing some jumping jacks can really make a difference.

3.Be positive.

Stop seeing the glass as half-empty all of the time. By looking on the Brightside, you can immediately boost your spirits. Optimism isn’t just for the foolish. Just start putting things into perspective and you can really improve your mood. Life isn’t that bad, so stop dwelling and start looking into the future.
