To ensure your flight is a pleasant experience it is worthwhile to heed certain health tips. They are designed to improve blood circulation, avoid ankle swelling, relieve cramped muscles and help you to arrive with a spring in your step.

  1. Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing.   Make sure your shoes allow for expanding of feet and ankles.
  2. Exercise your legs and flex your feet at regular intervals while seated to improve blood circulation and help avoid foot and ankle swelling.  An Aircycle exerciser at your feet throughout the trip is a good reminder to do this and is so easy to use.
  3. Get up and walk at least every two hours to encourage blood circulation and relieve tense and cramped muscles.   Do some stretches for your upper body as well as for your legs and freshen up to make you feel better as well.
  4. Deep breathing exercises while you are up, but also while you are seated, help muscles to relax and alleviate sluggishness. They may also help to induce sleep.
  5. Increase your normal intake of water before, throughout and after the flight.
  6. Drink alcoholic beverages and tea and coffee in moderation as these have a dehydrating effect on the body.
  7. Set your watch to the time of your destination to help your body adjust to this new reality during the flight.
  8. If you have a medical condition of any kind whatsoever, be sure to seek advice from your doctor before embarking on an extended flight. He will determine whether your condition could be worsened by air travel.
  9. Pack your medicines in your carry-on luggage so you’re prepared for any emergency.
  10. Make sure any liquids or aerosols comply with regulations and are packed in the small plastic bag allowed by airlines.
