Making a Tote Out of Kids Clothes

Making a Tote Out of Kids Clothes

Here is a great project which makes for a very creative gift or school project…a homemade bag made out of an old pair of jeans. First you are going to need an old pair of jeans…the ones you no longer fit anymore or perhaps have holes in the knees. You want to make sure you zip up and button the pair of jeans before you begin. Pull the jeans inside out and sew the leg holes together at the crotch. You can either do this with a sewing machine or you can hand sew it with thread or colourful yarn.

After you are done sewing, cut off the legs of the jean and turn the pant back, right-side out. You can then put a decorative and colourful belt in the belt hoops and you’ll have a handle for your tote! If you would rather, you can create a strap for the tote using the material from the legs you cut off. You can also take out the zipper and sew it closed. You can then decorate the bag with buttons, rhinestones or fabric gels to make it more interesting. The grandkids can have a lot of fun doing this part.

Making things out of old kids clothes is a great way to teach children never to waste anything and it can be a lot of fun for both you and your grandchildren. This tote can have many practical purposes too. It could be a great tote for groceries, or perhaps the grandkids can use this tote for an overnight bag to a friend’s house. They can personalise it and give it to their teacher, making it a great holiday or end-of-the year present for them.

This is a great project to spend quality time with your grandchildren and make use of all those beautiful kids clothes you never really wanted to part with! Not only that, but this is so easy you really do not need to be an expert seamstress to it this done. The best part is these recycled clothes bags are machine washable and very cost effective. So, if you are on a budget, as most people are these days, then this is a great project and a very frugal way to save money!
