Take your pick. The shops are starting to advertise spring fashion and the good news is; anything goes.

You don’t need to banish anything from your closet, there are no real faux pas to commit – be comfortable and enjoy your own sense of style.

Be a leader

Slavishly following fashion has always had its problems; there is nothing worse that feeling uncomfortable to achieve the height of fashion. It is always best to open your mind to new possibilities when it comes to colour and texture, but stick to the shapes that fit your body well.

Pick your friends wisely

If you have a trusted friend who will give honest and constructive feedback, shop with them. If not, choose a brand you feel comfortable wearing and ask a sales assistant. Once you have their advice, make your own decision and if in doubt, leave it out.

Always buy clothing that fits. Never fall into the trap of buying an item a wee bit tight on the assumption that you will lose weight. It is best to shop once you have achieved your goal as a reward. As a guide, if you gain or lose more than 5kg, you will need to go up or down a size.

Staple items

In any spring wardrobe, make sure you have a well-fitting pair of denim jeans, a pair of coloured jeans or capris, black trousers and a skirt. If your t-shirts are looking a little out of shape or discoloured, replace them. Use light knits and a tailored jacket to go from daytime to dinner with ease. Break out a few coloured or patterned tops to celebrate the change in season and vary your textures.

Fun accents

Accessorise with scarves and jewellery to expand your wardrobe inexpensively.

Shoes and handbags don’t always need to be sensible. A pair of bright shoes will jazz up jeans no end. Look past the black and brown and have fun with your feet.

As the winter wanes, make sure your hair is well cut and that you are including sun protection in your skincare routine. Get a manicure and pedicure in preparation for warmer weather and bid winter a fond farewell!
