birdsReading to children fosters a life long love of books and stimulates their imagination. Children’s books are vibrant, educational and often as delightful to adults, as they interact with their children.

Author Alicia Munday spent her younger years dreaming up stories. As a mother of young boys, she knows how children love animals and adventure. Her latest book, Squishy Squashy Birds, has just been released and is a gorgeous tale about a boy named Sammy, and his favourite nature book.

He takes it to school, and all the birds feel squashed inside, and then they are set free as the children learn about them. Naturally, a little chaos ensues, but the story is a lovely premise and one which would invite conversation with children about what goes on in other books when they aren’t being read.

Filled with gorgeous illustrations of native New Zealand birds, courtesy of Carl van Wijk, this is a fantastic title to add to your bookshelf to to add to your present cupboard.
