Its our city mayors/councillors and their buddies fault!! They seem to have grandiosed ideas and UP go the rates. A huge building And who benefits? Sports, Arts, you name it!!! Rate hikes every year – something is always added on to cover a botchup or someone has a one eyed agenda, secret hand shakes with developers. Secret deals being sealed long before its publicised. No wonder our millennials have exorbitant debts around their necks and will never afford their own home. Price of land is exorbitant! Jobs are too far from home Both parents have had to go out and work perhaps on rostered shifts.(Latchkey kids home alone) Family is disrupted/separated/divorced. Perhaps todays millennials started their young lives in creches and/or have had to fit in with multi step-parents/children. No one to talk to if bullied, only so called ‘friends’/creeps on internet etc. I certainly wouldn’t be happy either. They do have more problems than we had. Families(most) ate together at the table and had only one tv. They TALKED to each other. Even prepared meals together and washed dishes together. All domestic togetherness and certainly not always bliss but Mum was always there. If not they knew where she was Technology has its uses but its also helped cause/split family dynamics.

It is time the younger generations stopped trying to push blame on us oldies and took a good hard look at what they themselves are doing. I spent years trying to train my kids to open windows to prevent mould. It is such a simple step but they will find every excuse not to do so. One of my sons who is nearly 40 said he is getting mould in his bathroom and will be seeing the landlord about it. I told him that is his mould and his fault for not airing the house properly and not the landlords and he became most indignant and looked at me like I was the idiot. That is just one example and dont get me started on recycling and trying to get them to buy less plastics and to stop wasting things. I could go on for hours but I wont. It seems to me that they are being brainwashed by the media and politicians to blame others without having to change their lifestyle.

I am a firm believer in people owning their own responsibility along with their own mistakes, and the young people who are pointing the finger at us “oldies” are making plenty. So much more travel at younger ages than we ever did. We saved for our futures, they don’t. Disposable nappies versus washing them, Disposable milk bottles versus washing them, constant updating of latest technology with old going into the landfill, etc, etc. So the list goes on. They really do need to own all of that and stop blaming those who did things in the correct order and re-used (recycled) almost everything, right down to buttons. Our cars lasted longer, Most of us owned a bicycle, and so on and so on. Stop soft soaping everything for them. If they were prepared to look inward instead of harbouring blame to others, they would be able to make change more easily and become happier citizens.
