Life is busy, and it is extremely easy to find yourself exhausted, overwhelmed and feeling tired to the bone. Instead of accepting this as an inevitable part of life, seek out ways to recharge your batteries and live the best life you can.

Be with people you love

The healing capacity of love is endless. Talking, laughing, debating and just being around people dear to you will instantly lift your spirits and increase your energy. If you find yourself feeling flat, call a friend, organise an impromptu meal or just drop in to see a treasured friend or family member.

When you are tired, it often feels like an effort to be social, or you may not feel sociable. It will be worth the effort and you may just be doing your friend or relative a favor too – you may be just the medicine they need. Love can be given and received simultaneously, making everyone feel better.

Change it up

Do you feel a bit ho hum about your appearance? A sure fire way to pick yourself up is to make a small change – a haircut, manicure or massage can make you feel a million dollars and provide the incentive to start doing other things that make you feel better – eating well, exercising or tackling a project.

Make a list

Often a feeling of lethargy comes because you are overcommitted or not organised enough. Everything seems too much, and the smallest task seems to take forever.

Write yourself a to-do list and break it down into a time line. If you need to, write a plan to accompany the list so that you are absolutely clear about how to finish the tasks on it.

Keep track of your progress and reward yourself once everything is done – a nice glass of wine, a dinner out, an afternoon nap – just a little treat. The weight off your mind of finishing a list of jobs is great for the mental health as well!

Go away

Where is your favorite place in the world? Maybe it is time to go there. If you have a beach house or campervan, pack your bags and head off for some R&R. Slow down. Walk more slowly, breath more deeply and allow yourself the gift of time, even if only for a day or two. It is extremely healing>

On the other hand, breaking away from what you know can be equally exhilarating – it may be time to call your travel agent and go somewhere new. Seek out an experience you have never had before and broaden your horizons.

Love your life

This idea is great for the New Year, but your can start any time. Buy a small notepad and a large jar. Every day, make a quick note of something that you enjoyed. Next time you feel flat, empty the jar and start reading. This is especially valuable if you have had a stressful time and feel a little depressed – being thankful for the little things will help you work slowly towards a larger goal of accepting your situation and moving on.

Even a healthy internal battery needs recharging every now and again. Keep an eye on how you feel every day and try to do what you can to practically support good health, good sleep and a positive outlook. Aim to run on 75% power or more all the time, rather than living life in the red zone!
