ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Tim Saunders farms sheep and beef near Palmerston North. He has written three children’s picture books and two adult non-fiction titles, This Farming Life and Under a Big Sky. He was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize in 2021 for his story ‘Carved’; the only New Zealander to be shortlisted for this prestigious prize that year. He has had poetry and short stories published in Headland, Best Small Fictions, takahe, Landfall, Poetry NZ Yearbook, Broadsheet, RNZ and Flash Frontier. He won the 2018 MindFood Magazine Short Story Competition. He was joint winner of the Caselberg Trust International Poetry Prize in 2023. He performs poetry around the Manawatu and beyond.

ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR:

Minky Stapleton has been an award-winning Art Director and Creative Director, working in advertising agencies. She now works as an illustrator and creator of children’s books, many of which are best-sellers and have won awards. She moved from Johannesburg to New Zealand, where she now lives.

    2. The competition closes on 30th September 2026. Winners will be notified via email by 1st October 2026.

    3. It is your responsibility to provide a correct New Zealand postal address for prize delivery. GrownUps is not responsible for prizes sent to incorrect addresses.

    4. Winners will be drawn at random by the GrownUps administration team.

    5. GrownUps employees and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

    8. The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other items.
