Not all sports call for perfect knees, ripped abs and serious stamina. Here are some rewarding sports that you may want to consider taking up this summer.
Lawn bowls
Dynamic, exciting and social, bowls is quickly garnering a reputation. It lends itself to all ages, from bushy tailed teenagers to high energy grandparents. There’s no better way to spend a sunny afternoon, so why not head down to your local club and check out the scene?
Squash
Sure, squash can get sweaty and intense. But there are leagues for every age and skill level which means if you want to get started you absolutely can. The Masters League is one of the sport’s fastest growing segments, catered towards athletes over the age of 35. It lures a constant stream of “baby boomers” who haven’t lost their zest for competition.
Croquet
Easy on the knees, the elbows and the back, croquet is a fantastic pastime for silver-haired sportspeople. There’s even a World Championships League so if you want to get competitive the opportunity is there.
Tennis
Most clubs offer seniors days which mean you’ll be paired up with players at your level. Tennis is a great way to build strength, stay active and of course, have a good yarn after your match.
Did we miss your favourite sport? We’d love to hear about how you stay fit and competitive as an over 50.
