For medicinal purposes – whiskey sour

It’s cough and cold season, and that calls for hot toddies and lemon drinks – fresh lemon juice for the vitamin C, honey for the antibacterial qualities, and whiskey to ease the pain.

Here’s a delightful version of a whiskey sour, just for GrownUps. Not only can it loosely be called ‘medicinal,’ it’ll tickle your taste buds! (Just make sure you have a designated driver).

sour

For two servings, you will need:

  • 60ml freshly squeezed tart citrus juice (lemon, lime or grapefruit). We used lemonades, which are taste like a combination of lemon and grapefruit
  • 60ml whiskey
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp honey (active manuka if you have it)
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice

Method:

Place some ice in your favourite cocktail glasses to chill.

Mix the juice, whiskey and honey in a cocktail shaker until well combined (start with 1/2 a teaspoon of honey and add more to taste)

Add the egg white and a handful of ice and shake well. Tip the ice out of the glasses and strain the drink in. Garnish with a twist of lemon if you like. It makes having a cold almost worthwhile!
