Homemade oil diffuser

Making your home smell amazing is simple and doesn’t cost a lot. These homemade oil diffuser also make great gifts and are completely natural.

Aroma diffuserMaterials:

  • Glass or ceramic container (glazed inside, so it doesn’t leak) with a narrow opening at the top.
  • Essential oils of your choice (we’ve listed a few of our favourite below)
  • Reeds or bamboo skewers. (You may find you need to replace the skewers more often than the reeds)

Base materials:

  • Mineral oil such as sweet almond oil or safflower oil (you can get them online or in most health food stores.
  • Vodka and water (vodka will evaporate more quickly than something totally oil-based)

Method:

Oil based: About 12 drops essential oil to 1/4 cup base oil. You can experiment with the ratio to see what works best for you.

Vodka based: Add approximately 12 drops of essential oils with 1/4 cup of water then add a little of vodka (the vodka helps bind the oils to the water).

Mix the ingredients well and pour into your jar or vase.

Place one end of the reeds or skewers into the solution, allowing it to saturate the reeds. Then take them out, and place the opposite ends into the bottle. You will want to rotate which ends are in the scent solution about once a week.
