Q: This year a lot of my ‘Granny Smith’ apples were small and many were very lopsided. One side of the apple was much smaller than the other. Have you ever come across this before and do you know what causes it?
A: I suspect the problem is poor pollination. Cut the apple in quarters and you will probably find the small half has fewer seeds, perhaps none at all, while the larger one will have more seeds.
As a rule, the more seeds that form inside a fruit the larger the fruit will be. Small seeded varieties like kiwifruit and feijoas need good pollination to produce large fruit. Lack of bees, cold or windy weather, or lack of a pollinator variety at flowering could cause your misshapen fruit

So You’ve got problems
What has the world come to now ???
Somedays I DO feel a bit Green about the edges
and when my feet hurt I DO appear a little lopsided
One side IS sometimes bigger than the other
And so’s my ‘other half’
and as for Polination we have separate bedrooms now
and the seeds …don’t much want these at 70+
BUT A STUNTED GRANNY …NEVER!!! (SOOOORRY couldn’t resist)
