Devil's Chocolate Cake

Delicious and super easy to make, this cake is the perfect recipe to make for birthdays or special occasions.


  • 1.75 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1.5 cups castor sugar
  • 115g melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs unbeaten
  • 2/3 cups milk


  1. Sift the first 5 ingredients into a large bowl, then add the rest of the ingredients and fold to combine.
  2. Bake at 180C for 25 minutes in a greased 20cm round tin, then turn oven off and leave for a further 25 minutes.

To make this look really impressive use a few tricks of the trade:

1) Smother with rich chocolate icing.
2) Make chocolate flakes (done by melting some chocolate and then pouring on a sheet of baking paper to dry thin and flat, when hard create chocolate pieces in whatever shape you see fit, cement into the cake by using icing as a type of glue.
3) A sprinkling of icing sugar gives an all round decadent finish.
4) Top with fruit, nuts, lollies or small chocolate biscuits.
5) Pull out the piping bag and see what pretty patterns or designs you can create on top.
