At Davis Funerals it’s important to us that the care of our client families continues beyond the funeral. Our aftercare services include our Bereavement Care Programme, Christmas Memorial Services, advice on memorialisation, or simply answering those questions you need answered. It is important to us that we are here for our families whenever they need us.
In 2009, we launched our Bereavement Care Programme. We offer this complimentary service to our client families, thus extending our care beyond the funeral. The programme begins when Brent Daly, our Bereavement Care Facilitator, personally contacts the family to invite them to participate in our Bereavement Care Programme. Brent has many years experience in the Salvation Army, the funeral industry, has had critical incidents training and assisted in support services following the Christchurch earthquake.
- Session 1: Begins a process of acknowledging emotions, recognising symptoms and developing peer support
- Session 2: Covers the sharing of stories and recognising similarities and differences
- Session 3: Consists of looking at how we communicate our needs and what happens when they are not met
- Session 4: Involves how we can care for ourselves and each other physically, emotionally, intellectually, socially and spiritually
- Session 5: Looks at anger and guilt; how to recognise it and what we can do with it
- Session 6: Reviews the previous session and how we have begun to reconcile our grief; moving forward towards living comfortably with our loss.
We offer this service to guide and support you through your grief on a journey of healing. The programme can also provide you with a network of ongoing support from the other people in your group. We have a comprehensive library for your use, and can refer you to other resources for more in depth counselling should it be necessary.
Brent can be contacted through the office on 638 9026 or by emailing bereavementcare@gmail.com for more information or to book a place on the next course.
Also available is our exclusive resource, The Many Colours of Grief Series. These three books are also available through the above contact details at just $10 each.
First in The Many Colours of Grief Series, is for people in their first days and weeks of bereavement. It takes a look at what grief and shock can be like, ideas for managing them and options for ongoing support. It also looks at supporting children and young people close to you who are bereaved also.
Second in The Many Colours of Grief Series, is for people who are going through the first 3 – 10 months of bereavement. It takes a look at ways the grief journey can be like at this time and covers the key questions people in this situation often ask about grief. It addresses tough issues openly, such as coping with the thoughtless comments of others, facing special days and holidays and dealing with strong feelings like anger and guilt and loneliness.
Third in The Many Colours of Grief Series, is for people who are coming towards the end of their first year of bereavement. It takes a look at different ways a first anniversary can be marked, what others say helped them as they moved through this time and into the future, options for ongoing support and ideas for self care.
