Social climbing is fun! Not the relentless pursuit of popularity – we're talking about social climbing as a way of staying fit and strong.

Indoor and outdoor climbing will keep people of all ages, fit, strong and agile. Supporting and lifting one's own body weight is low impact, which means it is great for supporting aging skeletons. Climbing will help maintain lean muscle mass, which in turn helps with bone density and posture. Climbing will work up a very good sweat and burn plenty of calories.

Safety

The beauty of climbing is that the equipment is generally provided and it can be enjoyed by all ages. It is generally safe, as you are attached to a harness, so you won't plummet to the earth if you accidentally let go.

There are a number of indoor climbing centres around the country and it is a great and relatively inexpensive outing for the whole family. Climbing sessions are usually an hour long and you can climb independently or with a group.

You will be briefed on safety procedures before each session and staff roam to assist where necessary.

Whole Body Benefits

Climbing is not only good for your big muscles, it keeps your hands, fingers, toes and feet agile and your core gets a wonderful workout keeping your balance! You will learn problem-solving skills and tenacity.

Once you have mastered the art of indoor climbing, there are outdoor walls and climbing clubs to try.

Climbing may just be the addition to your fitness regime that you have been looking for – simple yet challenging, safe but daring, effective but achievable.
