David Attenborough: Micro Monsters

David Attenborough takes you on an amazing journey into the hidden world of bugs.

From the BAFTA and Emmy-winning producers of David Attenborough’s Galapagos and Kingdom of Plants, Micro Monsters uses pioneering macroscopic camera techniques to get closer than ever to the fascinating, beautiful, scary and downright alien world of arthropods – spiders, scorpions and insects. David Attenborough reveals how and why bugs became the most successful group of animals on the planet, outnumbering humans billions to one, and able to survive environments deadly to us. Ranging from the earliest simple organisms millennia before the dinosaurs, through their evolution into a bewilderingly diverse number of types and species, Micro Monsters shows the tactics these amazing creatures use to survive and thrive. Armies of killer ants, spiders weaving silken trap doors, beetles shooting boiling chemicals at their enemies, bees communicating with a waggle, deadly scorpions which have a beautiful mating dance, termites that build air-conditioned skyscrapers and the incredible double life of butterflies – all these and more are shown in the most stunning visual sequences, presented by the world’s favourite naturalist.

The Great Fire

As ITV's most expensive micro series to date – costing £6.35m – and featuring stars of Boardwalk Empire, Game Of Thrones and Broadchurch, The Great Fire is a vivid reimagining of the tragic historical event.

As the great fire tears London apart, this brand new epic drama details the heart-wrenching stories of a city and its people in crisis. The chaos follows speculation over blame for the fire, which broke out on the hottest night of a sweltering summer in London.

The Fire rages through the poorest quarter of the city and causes a revolt against the King of England, Charles II and the residents find themselves fearing for their lives and in need of aid. Quickly, fingers of blame are pointed at Thomas Farriner (Buchan – Broadchurch) – a father of two and the humble baker of Pudding Lane who supplies bread to the King.

A fascinating insight into what really happened on the night of Sunday 2nd of September 1666. The Great Fire of London where parts of the city burned for 3 days with 6 recorded deaths and thousands of homes burnt to the ground.

The Island with Bear Grylls

The Island with Bear Grylls is a survival skills reality television series narrated by Bear Grylls.

Thirteen British men were taken to a remote, uninhabited Pacific island by Bear Grylls for a month where they were left completely alone, filming themselves, and with only the clothes they were wearing and some basic tools. Their initial priorities were to find a fresh water source and food to feed themselves. On 23 May 2014, it was announced that The Island has been recommissioned for a second series to air in 2015.

The show is presented as a challenge for modern men to see if they can survive when marooned on a Pacific Island armed only with minimal tools and their own initiatives. According to Bear Grylls, masculinity is in crisis, and he is interested to see if men can survive stripped of the luxuries of 21st century living, and the show is therefore also a social experiment to see if man can recapture his primeval instincts.
