dependMany studies, including one by Victoria University,* show that older people are happier than the young. One of the keys to staying happy later in life is keeping fit and healthy so that you can lead an active lifestyle. Whether it’s a hobby, laughing with friends, or spending time with your family, it’s being able to carry on enjoying all the things you want to do.

Of course, as the body ages, things don’t always work as well as they used to. For instance, it’s estimated that over 1.1 million* New Zealand men and women of all ages experience bladder problems, or bowel control issues, to varying degrees. The good news is, incontinence is easily managed, so you can continue with a full and active life.

There are several simple health and lifestyle changes that can help with incontinence. A 5-10% weight loss can improve bladder control by reducing intra-abdominal pressure. Ironically, limiting daily fluid intake can actually worsen incontinence, or lead to serious illness, so drinking at least six cups of water a day is recommended. Eliminating or reducing your intake of alcohol, caffeine, and citrus-based beverages can reduce bladder irritation. Also, constipation can worsen bladder control problems, so eating foods that are high in fibre may help.

With the right product, incontinence doesn’t have to stop you from living a dynamic, healthy and happy life.
