If you live in the Waikato, Auckland or Northern Regions you could be.
Why?
Insurers have changed the way they calculate the sum to rebuild your home in the event of a natural disaster. It’s a consequence of the Christchurch and Kaikoura earthquakes and a recent survey on GrownUps found that people were not aware of this change or were confused about their cover.
What’s confusing?
Insurers have moved to a risk based pricing model. This means if you live in a high risk area then unfortunately theres a good chance your premiums will increase however it also means if you live in a low risk area then those premiums could decrease too.
This move toward risk based pricing has led to premium hikes of up to 300% so if you live in a low risk area it is a good idea to have an assessment of your insurance needs done as you may not be getting the full benefits of reduced premiums.

I under stand ‘specialist insurance’ where a broker will negotiate a very favorable rate for a group with a similar or same interest such as vintage cars etc. I have for a long while been under a broker for al my commercial interest which included my motorbike. Now I didnt have any issue with the rate that they offered and when looking around were all in the same ball park ($270.00 Per Annum) however as my insurances were coming due, i searched via Google several companies. one stood out as being very Favourable of $152.00 with membership to a certain motor cycle group or $180 with out. however, there is another nationwide group which offers all sort of member discounts, they tell you that they offer the very best rates etc etc all for being a member. their rate for all the same bike and rates $566.00 and your riding gear they advise to collect from your personal property insurance yes it pays to shop around but dont be taken in with the loyalty rubbish which is there to blind you.
