About Mentoring Minutes

Author and retired former school principal and teacher, Robin Cox, was fortunate to have some significant adults move quickly alongside him at crucial times of his childhood, after he had major cancer surgery as a young boy, followed soon after by the sudden death of his mother. Later, as he gained self-confidence, he approached adults he respected for encouragement and support. In reality, they became his mentors, and helped shape, refine, coach, and guide him to chase his dreams and fulfil his potential.

Mentoring Minutes: Weekly Messages to Encourage Anyone Guiding Youth aims to encourage and equip people working with youth with the knowledge, strategies, ideas, and recent youth research to build meaningful and developmental relationships with these young people.

There are five daily messages for fifty-two weeks of the year which cover topics like: understanding the world of youth, self-image, the impact of technology on youth, resiliency, goal setting, effective communication, values, how to resolve conflicts using a positive mindset, the role of family and other networks in the lives of youth, and the power of mentoring.

True stories of mentoring experiences of the author and others are included, along with short daily tips to promote the spirit of mentoring, and weekly quotes to inspire the reader. The hundreds of strategies and tips are arranged into general themes focused on the development of the whole person.

This user-friendly book will be an encouragement to schools, youth workers, mentors, parents, grandparents, employers of young people, indeed, anyone who wishes to see young people fulfil their potential.

“Mentoring Minutes is a wonderful book that will be enormously helpful to programs and mentors alike. Through engaging quotes and upbeat messages, mentoring expert Robin Cox has found a way to deliver just the right balance of research and inspiration.” (Professor Jean Rhodes)

“This book is an amazing resource for anyone working with a young person in a mentoring role—both in and outside of programs. A lifetime’s worth of wisdom and insight has been collected and shared here. Robin has done a wonderful job of highlighting many of the intricacies of the art of mentoring and I hope this book encourages new mentors and fortifies those who are already supporting young people.” (Michael Garringer, MENTOR, The National Mentoring Partnership (USA))
