About This Land: The Fall of Tāne

The journey continues within the reborn world of Aotearoa New Zealand … now known as Te-Riu-a-Māui.

After barely escaping the Whitetomb with the knowledge they sought, Hell’na and her companions confront Tāne for answers and discover the source of the Fever that has left Te- Riu-a-Māui forever changed. And with Shepherd and her mercenaries within striking distance, a dangerous journey to the Underworld uncovers the body of Māui …

With the evil god Whiro now roaming the land, his defeat becomes Hell’na’s new mission. But a battle with Shepherd’s crew is imminent … and Hell’na has become their number one target.

Scholastic is excited to publish Book 2 of this graphic novelisation following the October 2022 release of This Land: The Search for Māui, Book One.

Arising out of the history and heritage of
Aotearoa, the concept and original story of THIS LAND was written by Mark Abnett, with the assistance of his Māori cultural advisors, and brought to life in graphic format by his team of letterers, artists and colourists, led by P.R. Dedelis.

This is an action-packed story peopled with fascinating characters and told with humour.

Mark Abnett was born and raised in New Zealand, but is now based in Scotland. He can often be found on his couch complaining about the Scottish weather and pining for a can of L&P. Mark won the Netflix-owned Millarworld Talent Contest in 2016 with his Hit-Girl story Mindy’s ABCs, published by Image Comics in America.

He is passionate about storytelling that can help bring the heritage and history of Aotearoa to life through the highly visual medium of graphic novels.

Mark’s talented team consists of artist P.R. Dedelis from Poland, colourist Liezl Buenaventura from the Philippines, British letterers Rob Jones and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, Māori communications and engagement practitioner Verona-Meiana Putaranui, designers Hekiera Mareroa, Seb Wikaraka Peni and Te Haunui Tuna, and translator and cultural practitioner Trent Brown-Marsh.
