Lisse, the Netherlands

Over seven million tulips and other bright flowers fill the perfectly sculpted flowerbeds at the world-famous Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse. For the true flower fanatic, Boquete’s annual flower festival, from 11 to 21 January each year, is a must. Expert gardeners put on an incredible display of plants on the banks of the Boquete River. A highlight is the showcase by the local orchid society; a colourful collection of one of the world’s most treasured exotic plants.

Spello, Italy

The ancient Italian town of Spello is a gardener’s dream. Locals are known for trying to outdo each other with their lavish yards. Spello’s ‘Inforiate’, an ancient ceremony still taking place on 18th June every year, is the real attraction. On this day, the streets of the town are covered with floral mosaics, created as part of a competition and following all kinds of themes. The petals of daisies, chrysanthemums and all other types of flower are intricately laid out creative an awe-inspiring effect.

Giverny, France

Legendary artist, Claude Monet, called this town home for much of his life. His former Giverny garden, which inspired his water lily series, is now open to the public. It’s not hard to see how this stunning town inspired some of his most iconic work. Almost every inch of ground is covered with a dizzying array of plants, all separated by dreamy water-lily ponds and huge weeping willows. Open from 24th March until 1st November 2017.
