With many airlines now charging extra for checked in luggage it is a great opportunity to experience the freedom of travelling light.

If you are planning a short trip to Australia or within New Zealand then just taking a cabin bag can be a bonus when you reach your destination as time is saved by not having to wait for your luggage off the carousel.

Some airlines allow you to check-in online which saves time queuing at the airport as you can print your own boarding pass and head straight to the departure gate.  Ensure you check the monitor at the airport for the correct departure gate as this can change on the day.

Most airlines maximum weight for carry on cabin bags is 7kgs but always check the conditions when you purchase your ticket as airlines can vary.   There is also a maximum size for cabin bags/wheelie bags.  Check out the maximum size on airlines web site.

Travelling with only a wheelie cabin bag makes using public transport at your destination a whole lot easier and will save you money.

Tips

  • Don’t take sharp objects like a pocket knife or liquids, aerosols or gels over 100 mil as you won’t be able to take these in your hand luggage.
  • Take sample sized products on holiday or purchase them on arrival
