The flight into Queenstown would have to be one of the most scenic flights in New Zealand.
As you descend for the final approach you feel like you can touch the side of the towering mountains.
A range of accommodation is on offer from backpackers to exclusive Lodges. Most accommodation has spectacular views of Lake Wakatipu.
There is something for everyone in Queenstown – from a relaxing journey on the historic steamship “Earnslaw” to bungy jumping or jet boat rides.
For an evening to remember my top two favourites are sailing down Lake Wakatipu on the “Earnslaw” for a delicious buffet at Walter Peak Station or heading up the Skyline Gondola to take in the stunning views and an evening meal.
Autumn colour in Arrowtown is a “must see”. It is worthwhile spending some time in the Museum before you head out to explore the area.
An all day bus pass will get you out to Arrowtown and any other places you may wish to stop at such as The Remarkables Park Shopping Centre at Frankton.
The bus travels out to the Queenstown airport every 15 minutes. After the airport the next stop is the Remarkables shopping centre at Frankton and if you are there on a Saturday morning between 8am – 1pm (from 22 October to 7 April) there is the Remarkables Market offering a range of goods from home crafts to fresh seasonal produce. This is a 5-10 minute walk from the Remarkables shopping centre.
In Winter Queenstown celebrates with a mid-winter festival. There is a buzz of excitement as music, activities and laughter fill the air.
