I always imagined when I reached my 60s life would consist of gardening, reading, taking walks, watching a few films and just taking it easy.

Now, I had previously told myself after three long hard years making a feature film I would take a back seat on any future films, in fact I actually promised my husband I would. But here I go again!

After an almost eleven hour flight from Amsterdam to Hong Kong, we were more than glad to reach our destination.

Arriving by train at Santa Margherita Ligure, I really had no idea how truly beautiful this area is. It's the first time we have visited this part of Italy and I can honestly say it's breath-taking.

Today we have started packing as we leave Lucca in a couple of days for Santa Margherita, on the Italian Riviera.

I first came to Lucca in 2007 with my family. It has taken us five years to get back to this delightful medieval town which we fell in love with on our first visit.

From point to point it took us twenty four hours to get from Tokyo to Rome. We had to go via Paris which inevitably made the journey longer.

In Part One of Kay Rayner's travellog she departs New Zealand via the Auckland Airport and explores her first destinations - the intriguing country of Japan.

With about four weeks to go until we leave on our trip to Japan and Italy, the excitement is certainly building in our household.

Once you have successfully got your family through life's challenges it's time to let go and make their own mark on the world, and you look forward to the hope there might be some grandchildren.
