It’s the time of year for resolutions. Along with all the traditional ones, here’s a few to ponder. In 2016 I will…
- Learn the art of saying no, and meaning it, graciously
- Not waste time worrying or moaning about stuff I have no control over
- Remember everything you see depends on how you look at it.
- Perfect the art of being a great listener
- Appreciate the people in my life who bring out the best in me
- Prioritise making memories over accumulating ‘stuff.’
- Develop confidence in my own abilities
- Laugh as often and heartily as I can
- Live my life according to my expectations, tastes, hopes and dreams
- Rely on myself for joy
- Not hold grudges
- Go out of my way to brighten someone’s day
- Remember that despite all appearances, I have absolutely no idea what’s happening behind other people’s doors.
- Acknowledge it’s not always someone else’s fault. Sometimes I have to look in the mirror.
- I can disagree with someone’s opinions and beliefs, but it doesn’t make them wrong.
- Accept that friendships change over time. Sometimes they have an expiration date, and that’s OK.
- Not romanticise how good it ‘used to be’ or fantasise about how good it ‘might be’ in the future. I will savour how good it is right now
- Do the right thing, even if it’s uncomfortable and inconvenient.
- Be brave and have the tough conversation. It is ultimately better than living with the energy-sapping misery of resentment or misunderstanding.
- Remember that a good night’s sleep is a gift from the heavens and can change everything.
- Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.
- Accept, embrace and celebrate change.
- Take one day at a time, one step at a time. I will break down challenges into small, do-able chunks. It will all get done.
- Take a risk and seize the opportunity, because it may not present itself again.
