Family means everything to Laithwaites. Ever since Tony Laithwaite went to wash bottles in France in the 1960s, family and friendship have been central to the Laithwaites journey.
Laithwaites love working with family growers and wine lovers and buy wines direct from their wine producing families. For Laithwaites friendships are key, and their culture is inspired by the many families they work with across the globe.
Laithwaites have been working with many wineries and winemakers for decades and these relationships mean they can introduce their customers to special wines they won’t find anywhere else – and many become firm favourites – the world over.
In New Zealand the story is the same. Back in the 1980s Tony Laithwaite was invited by the New Zealand Government to discover the Marlborough wine region. Tony instantly fell in love and was one of the early pioneers in promoting New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc in the UK.
Since this time, the company has continued to build the New Zealand Laithwaites family and have long standing relationships with Marlborough winery Forrest Estate, with their riesling being a favourite with our customers.
Recently, Laithwaites have added some new New Zealand family wineries to their line up – Big Sky Wines in Martinborough with their beautiful pinot noir and from Hawke’s Bay husband and wife team, Monowai Estate, and their merlot and pinot gris.
Sally Duncan, recently appointed Country Manager of Laithwaites New Zealand says, “I love working with these wonderful kiwi families and showcasing their wines, making new friends, and having some fun along the way.”
Today, Laithwaites are still a family-owned business with Tony and Barbara Laithwaite as well as their three sons running the business. Even after 50 years they still go direct to the producers and are inspired by traditional values and the many producers they work with and that’s how it’s going to stay.
Laithwaites believe in family first, both globally and right here in New Zealand.
