Basil beef burgers

What’s better than a good homemade beef burger grilled to perfection? How about these beef basil burgers for an Italian twist to the Kiwi classic!

  • 1⁄2 cup basil leaves, loosely packed, minced
  • 1⁄4 cup red onion, minced
  • 1⁄4 cup Italian seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1⁄4 cup dry red wine
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 900g beef mince
  • 8 slices cheese
  • 2 tomatoes sliced
  • lettuce leaves
  • 8 hamburger buns, split

Method

Add the first six ingredients and season with salt and pepper. Mix together with your hands (it’s easier than with a spoon!) to form into eight patties, then put in the fridge for at least 45 minutes.

Grill on a hot BBQ or oven until perfect then serve with cheese, sliced tomatoes and lettuce for crunch.
