The hardest thing you can do as a parent is not discipline your kids!
I know, I know: you’ll be thinking that disciplining them and training them and making rules and enforcing them is a lot of work and it is… but early discipline and training makes things easier. I am going to boast a little here: my kids were far from perfect, but they were generally really well behaved, and that was in spite of the fact that all of them had lively, colourful personalities. They were easy to take out in public. We heard nice reports on how they behaved at school and at other people’s places. Good discipline requires consistency and patience, and the earlier you start the less effort is required overall. We must have done a few things right early on because, honestly, even the teenage years were a breeze.
When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. When is the next best time? Today. Maybe you haven’t got on top of things and your kids are pretty unruly but it’s not too late, don’t give up. Maybe you need some new ideas – our website will help – but it is amazing how much headway you can make even when they are teenagers and young adults.
But it is so, so much easier if you start when they are little.
