Rue McClanahan (Blanche Devereaux, The Golden Girls) had a clause in her contract stating that she could keep her character Blanche’s clothes.

Despite being on-screen best friends, Bea Arthur and Betty White were not so close off-screen. Arthur was frustrated by Betty being the first cast to be nominated for an Emmy and her perennial cheerfulness.

According to Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron, the series was inspired by Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. The third season of the series even includes a specific Taming of the Shrew episode.

At the time of filming Moonlighting was the most expensive primetime series on television, each episode cost an estimated $1.6 million.

The Greatest American Hero star William Katt was considered for the role of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars.

William Katt is the son of TV legend Barbara Hale, best known as Della Street on Perry Mason. She appears in the series as Ralph’s mum, Paula.
