Though it's not well advised, hitting a device until it works is technically called "percussive maintenance". Percussive maintenance is defined as "the use of physical concussion, a knock or a tap, in an attempt to make a malfunctioning device start to work correctly again."

In August 2013, the Mars Rover Curiosity had been on the red planet for one year, taking over 70,000 photos and studying samples of the soil. On its birthday, NASA had programmed the drone to vibrate at different frequencies so it sounded like the robot was singing Happy Birthday to itself – 208 million miles away from home.
