We care for people and families who are faced with a diagnosis of life-threatening illness. They come seeking assistance which may involve making choices around treatment options or it may be coming to terms with the end of their life.
We focus on enabling and empowering people to achieve an holistic sense of well-being, whatever that means for them.
dove house is a day hospice with a broad range of services from nursing and medical expertise, emotional and counselling support, complementary therapies and support groups. We also have a 24hour care unit dove wing which provides short term respite and convalescence care and longer term care at the end of life.
Both dove house and dove wing are run by Eastern Bays Hospice Trust we do not receive any government funding and rely totally on the generosity of our community. Currently we are assisting 490 people and their families and we need your support to do so!
Please consider this inaugural fundraiser on December 1st it is going to be a wow event! Our goal is to raise $20K which will be applied directly to the care that is given in dove wing.
Because of the generosity of our volunteers, sponsors and participants, the overheads of this event are minimal.
Our plans are for 90% of your ticket price to go directly towards our 24 hour care respite bed which costs $216 per day.
The Genesis of Hanene Gardens
When Haydn Staples and Lynley Stewart took over an already established property in Kohimarama and bought the property next door they decided they wanted a very special garden. One day Haydn came across a book by Fernando Caruncho. Intrigued by his style they kept looking but always came back to the simplicity and underlying elegance of his work. Six months after a major car crash they visited Madrid en route to Granada to view one of the most famous gardens of the world and Haydn's favourite. The Alhambra.
Following this visit, Fernando worked on a plan for them. When he uncovered the model, they just gasped with delight at what he presented. They were completely spellbound by his clever interpretation of their brief and his imagination in meeting it so cleverly and successfully. They were bowled over!
Having accepted his design they then moved into the implementation phase which lasted a good two/three years. The garden is now six years old and mostly well established. It is enjoyed and used by family and friends and many others all year round.
