Cheryl Wiggins, pharmacist and integrative practitioner at Pharmaceutical Compounding NZ Ltd has been studying hormones at the international level and discusses the hormone – age connection below.
Most of us are born "in balance" with ten fingers and toes and all the functions that enable us to "run as fine tuned engines", well at least in the beginning.
As we grow and develop our hormones come alive and take their positions in life's orchestra to play those beautiful symphonies, which are unique to each of us, from day to day adjusting the tone of the notes played when needed on those just too stressful times.
As we move through the years of life we find things change and it becomes obvious that parts of this orchestra are either weak, lacking completely or simply just out of tune.
Our hormones are the instruments in this orchestra and the messages they carry become their beautiful tunes that are played, from the softest note played by the smallest instrument to the loudest "boom" from the big bass drum, working together in perfect harmony.
Our hormones work as efficient messages calling to task many processes in our body that keep us "running smoothly" – as we get older and find ourselves under stress these levels of hormones go down bringing out changes in how we feel, sleep, interact and think.
The modern day lifestyle is so different to how our parents lived with more stress, financial pressures, chemicals, plastics, mobile phones and computers, even our food no longer gives us what it used to – everything around us affects everyone in different ways.
We age because our hormone levels go down, our hormone levels do not go down because we are aging – it is the lowering of these hormone levels and protective nutrients in our bodies that allow for the onset of age related diseases.
Wouldn't it be exciting if we could feel in control and not accept changes just because someone else has decided we are "just getting old"
Active wellness and looking at hormone levels is about choosing to reduce the risk of and the onset of age related conditions like memory loss, brain fog, fatigue, weight gain, joint aches and pains, arthritis, bladder complications and even heart disease, plus many more.
This hormone "orchestra" can be complex and often difficult to harmonise – contact us to find out how we can help you find greater "harmony" with your own unique orchestra and health.
