Although many of us don’t like to admit it, loneliness is a pressing challenge for many Kiwis. Despite technology making us more connected than ever before, many of us are feeling increasingly isolated.
But often we suffer in silence: according to the 2degrees #GoodChat survey, more than half of Kiwis struggle to tell their partners when they are feeling lonely.
Social connection is essential for well-being. Direct human contact lowers our stress levels and feelings of anxiety and loneliness. Although it can seem easy to just send a quick text message, often it’s face-to-face conversations that lead to deeper connections.
If you suspect someone close to you is feeling lonely, the first step is to reach out and start a conversation.
