Inspired by her granddaughter and crafted with love over many years, Zephyr Follows the Stars is a delightful junior fiction read from a New Zealand author.

Zephyr is ten, and her mother has been kidnapped by Wind Wizards who live out on the wild west coast. Zephyr, her father, and her uncle must embark on a long and dangerous journey. Along the way, they face dangers: wicked slicing dust storms, huge sea hawks and fire. There is a map and star crystals, keys and geckos, a strange egg and best of all, magic!

Mysterious star witches offer guidance. and the group discover sources of help along the way. Zephyr has been told that she is the only one who can save her mother.

By Zephyr’s side is a very special dog, who helps her in many ways along the journey, especially when they have to travel alone through the mountains. Her dog becomes her best friend and helps her to be courageous right until the end, as they endeavour to find a way to the Wind Wizard’s castle and a way to rescue her mother.

Author Note

‘I write poetry and short stories, but most of all, I love to write children’s stories because I know that a child’s mind is open and seeking adventure. And because I remember being a little girl and reading any and every book I could find. I originally wrote this book for my first granddaughter, Akemi. I began by sending her each chapter by letter when she was about six and could read. She is now seventeen. We enjoyed talking about Zephyr and her adventures, and we had lots of fun. The story grew and developed, and here it is, finally ready for the world.’

About the Author

Linley Edmeades is a mother, grandmother and gardener who has been telling stories all her life. The joy of sharing stories with others is lifelong, and she will continue to write for whoever wants to find other worlds and open their imagination. She lives in Whakatāne.
