These bilingual books offer an accessible introduction to te reo Māori vocabulary for young readers and their whānau. The books have themes of determination, individuality, self-belief and exploration.
Norah Wilson is originally from the suburbs of Washington, D.C., and after several years teaching in Brussels, Belgium, she settled into life in Aotearoa in 2011 with her Kiwi husband, three kids and a sweet, giant puppy. Norah has been telling stories through her teaching and motherhood for many years, but it wasn’t until her third child was born that she decided to write them down. She began by writing, illustrating and self-publishing two books, which were a total labour of love. Norah currently lives and teaches on Auckland’s North Shore. These are her first books with Scholastic and were selected from over 200 submissions as part of their annual Valentine’s Day ‘Share the Love’ event.
Kimberly Andrews is an illustrator and author who grew up in the Canadian Rockies. In London, she worked for The House of Illustration and at the Natural History Museum. Kimberly won NZ’s Russell Clark Award for Illustration with her first book, Puffin the Architect, which was followed by Scholastic’s Ernie and the Magic Kennel. She has now illustrated over 10 books. Kimberly lives with husband Tim and two small daughters in a tiny house near Wellington, where she illustrates and writes, and runs her business Tumbleweed Tees.
