About Rings on Water
A narcotics pick-up at sea goes horribly wrong. A man is lost overboard. A dangerous series of events sends shockwaves through the local community. The latest thrilling crime novel from bestselling NZ author Madeleine Eskedahl.
On a wintery day a young woman is found dead at a local beach, Sergeant Bill Granger, the local policeman, is called in to investigate. He had hoped for a quiet off- season. Instead, what seems to be a straightforward case of an unfortunate death turns into a complex web of small-town secrets and a desire for revenge that will soon place Bill’s family in danger.
With Niko Sopoaga, a young South Auckland constable working alongside him, Bill falls into the dark and dangerous world of drug distribution and a hardened motorcycle gang wreaking havoc, while they chase a clever killer.
As Bill and Niko search for clues to uncover the killer’s identity, Annika Granger prepares for an art exhibition. She is befriended by Crystal, a young woman new to the close-knit community. Crystal overhears a conversation and ultimately discovers her partner, Andrei, is not the person she believed him to be.
Everyone discovers that secrets run deep, even in the best of communities.
The perfect read for people who enjoy a Jane Harper or a Liane Moriarty novel.
‘I feel incredibly fortunate to live in an environment so full of factors to draw inspiration from,’ says Madeleine Eskedahl. ‘The proximity to our largest city, the rich tapestry of artisans and creatives, the stunning scenery, the history, and of course everyday life. Combined, this makes the perfect environment for a crime novel.’
About the author:
Madeleine’s first thriller Blood On Vines was released in 2021 and is the first instalment in The Matakana Series. Blood On Vines was on the NZ Bookseller Top 10 list for eight weeks.
This book was also voted onto the prestigious Whitcoulls Top 100 list for the year 2022/2023.
Madeleine Eskedahl was born in Sweden, and has been living in New Zealand for the last thirty years. She’s married and has two daughters as well as Archie, the family’s West Highland Terrier, and loves to live close to the beach, in a rural community.
Having been fortunate to grow up in a small village on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea, this particularly resonates with her, and she very much remains an islander at heart.
As well as writing crime novels, Madeleine is passionate about conservation and enjoys being a ‘penguin ranger.’ This job includes regular monitoring of the Korora, The Little Blue Penguin, and their nesting sites along the coast where she lives.
Her love of books and reading started from an early age, with especially fond memories of her maternal grandmother, Mormor, taking her to the local library, spending hours reading and getting lost in the fabulous world of make-believe. This in turn inspired her creativity from an early age.
As well as being a bookworm and a polygot, Madeleine loves walking on the beach, spending time with family and friends, pottering in the garden and catching up on the latest Scandinavian crime dramas, while plotting the next book in the series.
