About A Hug So Tight

A fun and engaging children’s picture book that teaches children about sign language as part of a heart-warming story.

Lenny is a cheeky little Loris getting up to mischief in a forest. Follow him on an adventure as he learns how to make friends and be nice!

As you follow Lenny’s journey, keep an eye out for the animals that are communicating in sign language. Use the resource guide in the back of the book to help you learn!

About the Author

I’m Holly, the writer and illustrator of A Hug So Tight and the graphic designer behind Twig. I started Twig with the intention of creating designs with the reader in mind, designs that people could understand and ‘Twig’ onto. I’ve always had a passion for illustration and children’s books and realised that there is a whole group of kids that miss out on the joy of these books. So I started working on my first kid’s book that focused on the hearing impaired with characters that they can understand. This book is the first of many that will help make understanding and learning sign language fun, and it is inspired by my young cousin Theo, who has Down syndrome and a few additional complexities which has affected his ability to learn verbal language.

 

 

Terms and conditions

    1. You must be a GrownUps member and receive our newsletter to be eligible to win.
    2. Competition closes on the 1st May 2024, winners will be notified via email by 2nd May 2024.
    3. It is your responsibility to ensure you correctly enter a New Zealand postal address where the prize can be sent. GrownUps will not take responsibility for prizes sent to incorrect addresses.
    4. Winners are drawn at random by the GrownUps administration team.
    5. GrownUps employees and family are not eligible to enter.
    6. By entering the giveaway, you approve for GrownUps to use your name on social media as winner of the competition.
    7. One entry per household.
    8. Prize in non transferrable.
    9. You must reside in New Zealand – the prize can only be redeemed within New Zealand.
