Why NotAbout Why Not?

A hilarious story about curiosity, exaggeration, and library mischief!
A companion book to the popular But Then...

“Well, you probably won’t believe me if I say it’s a snake – a huge, child-swallowing anaconda,” said the librarian.

A child visits the library with their mum, who tells them to find a book and stay out of trouble. Almost immediately, the librarian warns the child against doing certain things, like climbing the shelves, peeling up the carpet, or taking a particular book. Each time, the child responds with “Why not?” prompting the librarian to spin increasingly outrageous stories.

Following on from But Then . . . The almost true story of an overdue library book, Swapna Haddow has written a companion story, packed with more humorous and exaggerated scenarios that turn an ordinary library visit into a thrilling adventure.

Kids love tall stories, and this one will not disappoint. Daron Parton’s bold and energetic artwork brings the chaos and humour to life, making every page a visual treat.

She has also written the early reader Ballet Bunnies series as Swapna Reddy. Her first book for Scholastic NZ was the hilarious But  Then… the forerunner to Why Not? Swapna lives in Dunedin with her husband, son and dog.
