Life has never been more trackable. If we so choose, the way we eat, sleep and comb our hair can all be linked back somehow to a digital app, downloaded onto a smart phone or tablet.
But with so many different apps to download how do we know which ones are useful to us, and which ones are just using up our data space?
Cooking/recipe apps: Most people have complied a stack of their favourite recipe books, some even start their own adding in family specials and tried and tested favourites. But when you’re bored of the same midweek routine and need some fresh inspiration, there is an abundance of free apps you can download which offer new and exciting recipe ideas to try out.
BigOven – This is one of the most popular recipe apps around, and it’s pretty easy to see why. With 350,000 recipes loaded and ready to go, it’s a great app to use for daily meal ideas. You can search by category, time of day, dietary requirements and how many servings of a particular dish you require. Once the information is entered and desired recipes are selected and saved the app will compile a grocery list for you to add to your weekly food shop. The best aspect of this app is the leftovers section. Enter three things you have left over in your fridge or pantry and BigOven will supply you with recipes to use up the leftovers!
Health and fitness apps – Keeping fit and healthy can be hard work, a task made harder if your unsure on how to start, what to do or how to keep going. With thousands of apps created to help you track your weight, food intake, provide workouts and targets to reach this can be made a lot easier.
Gym Goal is an app designed especially for just that. It contains over 200 workouts for free which you can modify and follow based on your ability and end results wanted. It mixes weight training with cardio and resistance exercises to get the most out of your work out.
Brain testing apps – Once you’ve worked out the body, it’s time to work out the brain.
Voted App of the Year in 2014 from Apple’s App Store – Elevate is the app to download to train a variety of brain functions from listening, memory and comprehension. This app really focuses on useful day to day needs and practicalities such as math skills, language and name recall. For free you can access a variety of training levels, but for as little as $5 you can upgrade to more levels and testing.
