Easter doesn’t need to mean sugar highs and loading up on the sweet stuff. While part of the Easter fun for many are the chocolatey treats, there is a way to treat yourself and your family without sacrificing your health or the holiday fun.
Make swaps for healthier treats
Swap out the jelly beans with mother nature’s candy instead. Try goji berries (think a mix between a cherry and a cranberry) that are loaded with serious antioxidants and vitamin C.
Toasted coconut flakes are an excellent source of healthy fat.
Instead of candy-coated chocolate like m&m’s try chocolate covered almonds instead. Aim for dark chocolate (70%-85%) which has less sugar than other chocolate and also contains more antioxidants. Almonds are also fantastic for you. Packed with healthy fats, fiber, protein, magnesium, and vitamin E.
Add in a homemade treat
Add eggs to your day
What is Easter without eggs after all! Start the day off with a protein punch which will keep you fuller for longer, one egg has 78 calories, 6 grams of protein. They are also full of omega-3 and vitamins A, D and E.
Entertain the kids and decorate the eggshells with food dye. Depending on your egg preference, you may wish to decorate the eggs once they are hard boiled or make a small hole in the shell at the top and the bottom and ‘blow’ the egg out leaving the shell complete then pain the delicate shell.
Think outside the treats
Have a great Easter!
