Trying to save money can be a difficult task if we don’t know where to start – apart from giving up that daily cup of coffee from the café down the street. If you are looking for some more unique ways to save money that you may not have dreamed up yet, then this is the list for you.
Read on to learn how to start savings those dollars while still living a happy, comfortable life.
Try going vegetarian (for some of the week, at least!)
Some of our most expensive items in the supermarket trolley are from the meat department. To cut down on costs here, you can go vegetarian, or commit to 3 or 4 days a week without meat. Going without meat doesn’t have to be boring, either; there is a huge range of delicious recipes online that you can whip up in the kitchen at home – it’s not just all salads and boiled veggies.
Try out dishes like chickpea curries, marinated tofu stir fries, and mushroom burgers. Add more spices to beef up the flavour of meals – if you’ll pardon the pun!
Go for cleanskins
They’re sold very cheaply, so your dollar goes much further. While you may come across some wines that you don’t like the taste of, a majority of cleanskins are a good drop and you’ll be a happy customer.
Subscribe to all the airline mailing lists
If you love to go on holidays, but always find that you’re spending too much on flights, then subscribing to airline mailing lists is a great way to save money. Every few weeks you’ll come across a mega-bargain, which, if the timing fits, means that you will be able to escape on holidays for an absolute steal.
You can also combine these flights with destination deals offered from online deal websites for a truly low budget holiday.
Hit the library
When was the last time you visited the local library? While we all like a good read, and often purchase books, either in store or for our Kindles, the library is still there and is an underutilised resource for many of us.
Libraries carry all the latest new releases, along with classics, and sometimes the obscure, too. Check out GoodReads for some literary inspiration, and make a list to take along to your local library with you.
Use rewards cards
Make sure to pay off your credit card bill completely each month to avoid any fees.
