DIY projects made simple

Whilst some DIY tasks require a high level of skill, there are many DIY projects that are easy for anyone to accomplish.

A Window Replacement Alternative

Not everyone can afford to replace all their windows, but there is a much cheaper solution. Instead of buying low-E windows you can use film instead.  All you need to do is apply the film to your windows and you are done. As long as you’re careful the film will look like it’s been applied by a professional.  If you’re unsure how low-E film works, it basically keeps the heat inside your home during winter and it will keep your rooms cool in summer.

Seal Air Gaps

Heat can escape through walls and windows, but it’s going to be a lot worse if the air finds gaps. Apply a thin layer of caulking to your window and door frames, plus d on’t forget the sides of your electrical sockets. Holes might be tiny.  Mix up your own mortar and fill in any gaps around the plumbing on the outside of your home, too . Follow the instructions supplied or consult this guide: How to mix mortar” http://www.wikihow.com/Mix-Mortar

Insulating Your Steel Garage

If you use a steel garage for storage, poor insulation could result in your possessions being damaged. You can retrofit insulation if it wasn’t done properly in the first place.  , and it’s also easy to install.  Just make sure there is a small gap between the foil and ceiling so it will create an air pocket. When the sun hits your roof the heat will be reflected away from the inside of your garage.

Taking Care Of Heating Ducts

If you have exposed heating ducts in your home, consider sealing and insulating them to stop the heat from escaping. This might not seem like a big deal, but a lot of energy is wasted this way. All you need to do is add duct mastic to the joints first. Once you’ve applied it to the joints, insulate any exposed ducts in your crawl space and attic.

It’s Well Worth The Effort

You’ll need to spend a little money on the materials for these DIY projects, but you’ll likely save a whole lot more in the long wrong due to energy savings..  None of these tasks should  take too long to carry out, s and they are simple for anyone to do. Start simple, build confidence and move onto the next challenge.
