He turned on his lights and siren, and signalled to the man to stop. When he did so, the officer approached the car, looked at his watch and said, “Sir, I finish my shift in 10 minutes. If you can give me an excuse as to why you were travelling at that speed that I have never heard before, I’ll let you be on your way.”
The man sat quietly for just a moment, his face serious. He replied, “I’m sorry officer – a few years ago, my wife ran off with a policeman. I thought you might be trying to return her.”
“Have a good day, sir,” said the policeman.
