Flowers, chocolates, romantic candle light dinners and special words on a card are lovely for Valentine’s Day, but what about the other 364 days or the year? It is said that true love is focusing on meeting the needs of someone else, in the spirit you would like yours met, rather than focusing on what you want.
There are many small gestures to make your loved one feel valued and adored that don’t need to cost the earth or take a lot of time. Have you tried:
- Listening without interruption for five minutes straight
- Holding hands
- Unpacking the dishwasher
- Whispering ‘I love you’ in a public social situation
- A five minute cuddle or back rub before getting up in the morning
- Putting a towel in the drier to make it warm while your beloved is in the shower and handing it to them
- Making the tea/coffee
- Being silent together
- Going for a walk in the morning or after dinner
- Taking the kids out early in the morning to leave the house quiet for a sleep in
- Unexpected texts with sweet messages
- Booking or organising hassly jobs around the house to be completed
- Visiting relatives with good grace and patience
- Hugs with no strings attached
- Creating time for them to spend with friends
- Writing a list of things you appreciate about them today for them to find
- Calling for no reason
- Sharing their achievements or great qualities with others
- Joining in their favourite hobby with a great attitude
- Starting each day with a clean slate and open mind
- Putting them before work, friends, committees etc
- A 30 second kiss each day
- Forgiving old hurts and never referring to them again
- Making the decisions on where to eat or what to do
