Now That I'm Fifty Here's Seven Lessons I Wish I Had Learnt Before I Was Thirty

How many times have you said the words “If I only knew then what I know now?” Hindsight is always 20/20, right? How many of you are like me and come to that painful realization that the older I am the wiser I am becoming?

Several weeks ago we were sitting with friends having great conversation and something popped out of my mouth that really sounded weird….but then the more I thought about it… the more it made sense!

Here’s what I said, “Now that I’m in my fiftieth year, I’m ready to live my thirtieth year again.” I know that many of you reading this will understand exactly what I am saying!

Anyway, here’s the seven lessons that I now know that I wish I had known when I started living my third decade of life.

Lesson One: Make sure your ladder to success is leaning against the right wall.

Lesson Two: Debt is a destructive force when it gets out of control.

Lesson Three: Focus on making things better, not bigger.

Lesson Four: Being comfortable is not always the best thing. A life worth living involves prudent risk.

Lesson Five: A true friend is very hard to find and even harder to keep.

Lesson Six: If you are not pursuing your dream then you are pursuing someone elses.

Lesson Seven: Getting knocked down is a fact of life. It will happen. Getting up after being knocked down is a matter of choice.

There you have them. Seven lessons! Had I known them entering my thirties  I would be an even wiser fifty year old.

Feel free to leave a comment on the lessons you’ve learnt in life.

Cheers
Eugene
