Fish: So Good For You and So Tasty

10037 Happy Lady with Food

Seafood is not only delicious and easily digestible; it also contains more forms of vitamins and proteins than any other source of protein. It is low fat and full of those good marine Omega-3 fatty acids that we all can't get enough of, the ones that are so beneficial for the heart, brain, central nervous system and the skin.

Great source of nutrients

Fish also contains B vitamins and key micronutrients including iron, zinc, iodine and selenium. Our bodies gain calcium from salmon and sardines and other fish eaten with bones and vitamins A and D from oily fish, and the liver of white fish.

If you need more excuse to increase the frequency of how often fish features on your dinner table, head to the local supermarket and have a look at how much better it now compares to meat prices at the moment.

Keeping your fish fresh

Like all meats, food hygiene requires raw fish is kept refrigerated at all times. Raw fish can safely be stored in the fridge for just two or three days depending on how fresh it was when you bought it and how it was handled and stored before you got it home.

There is an enormous amount of research going on to explore the positive impact the long chain omega acids in fish can have on the prevention of chronic diseases, the treatment of inflammatory conditions, children's learning and behaviour, cognitive and eye function and even, mental health.

Fish is a very important part of a healthy diet. There are so many ways to make it succulent and delicious, that it is very worthwhile making sure your family eats it regularly.
