Did you know that kiwi birds actually smell rather offensive (like rotting pork)? Some say our national bird’s aroma is a defence mechanism, to ward off predators.
It seems the human kiwis have a bit in common with their feathered counterparts; a Rinnai survey about our habits in the bathroom show that a quarter of us don’t shower or bathe every day. Nearly 20% admitted to showering every two days and a nose-wrinkling 6% only bother once a week!
Hand washing is optional for an alarming number of both men and women after using the toilet, with 28% of men and 21% of women not always bothering!
There has always been the question of how many men it takes to change a toilet roll, given that it is rarely observed, but for the sake of relationship harmony, it might be a good idea if they tried!
Funnily enough, the bathroom is the location for a few ‘pet peeves’ – how considerate are you in the bathroom? Nearly 30% of respondents are ‘bugged’ about the bathroom being left in a mess, or the toilet roll bare, followed by the time it takes to ‘get the business done.’
The toilet seat continues to be a bone of contention, along with the toothpaste tube – there are definite views about closing the cap, wing away overflow and not only squeezing from the top!
However, the number one bathroom issue is having a hot-water-hog on the premises. Many families resort to timers to ensure there is enough water to go around, and enough time for everyone to get flossed up and out the door on time in the morning.
Next time you use your bathroom, remember the golden rules – keep clean regularly, if it’s empty – replace it, if it’s overflowing wipe it – and for goodness sake wash your hands! Use warm water, soap and sing happy birthday twice as you wash, then dry thoroughly.
