Cleaning your dentures – it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3

Your dentures may be removable, but that doesn’t mean that you should simply slip them off and leave it at that. Just like real teeth, your falsies also need daily care to keep them looking bright, white, and fresh.

A daily denture cleaning regime can also prevent all kinds of problems, as without the right care, plaque can build up on dentures and eventually form tartar. This can trigger bad breath.

The good news is, giving your dentures a daily deep cleanse doesn’t have to be a headache. In fact, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Step 1: Soak
Start with a daily soak, which will help lift plaque and debris that denture brush bristles can’t reach. It’s best to use a special denture cleanser such as Polident’s 3 Minute Daily Cleanser, as this has been shown to kill up to 99.9% of odour-causing bacteria in laboratory tests. Simply drop a tablet into very warm water, then soak your dentures for three minutes. Don’t forget to keep the solution, as you’ll be using it in the next step!

Step 2: Brush
Next, you’ll need to give your dentures a light brush. A soft bristle denture brush is best, as this helps to minimise scratches. Using the same Polident cleanser tablet solution from Step 1, gently run the brush over your dentures in a circular motion to remove any remaining plaque or food. Remember though, as tempting as it is, it’s not a good idea to use toothpaste as its abrasive effects have been known to scratch dentures and therefore even promote the growth of bacteria.

Step 3: Rinse
After you’ve soaked and brushed, the next step is to give your dentures a thorough rinse. Simply place them under warm running water and ensure that they get a good soak. Not too hot, as this could cause damage. Rinse off anything that’s left, as well as all the cleansing solution.

In just three easy steps, you can keep your dentures looking great, and performing at their best. It doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, the entire three step process can be done in under 10 minutes.

So, in the same way you’d commit to brushing your teeth every night, make these three simple steps a part of your daily routine. Not only will your dentures stay clean and fresh, but you’ll arm yourself with the confidence to smile, laugh, and live life to the fullest.
