Then let the open road take you
Who said retirement meant less adventure? With kids gone, mortgage paid, and work just a memory, retirement is often a time of freedom we haven’t experienced since we were teenagers!
It’s no wonder that motor homing has become so popular with people over 65.
Aside from that, campervanning comes with a lot of other pluses:
- Explore your own back yard. How many of us have been to Greece, but not the Fox Glacier? NZ is breathtakingly beautiful and there’s no better way to see it than by road.
- Stress-free travel. Some of the biggest hassles and stresses of travel come from managing check-ins, check-outs, uncomfortable motel beds and missed connections. When you BYO accommodation, you eliminate all of that. No constant repacking, lugging bags or sleepless nights.
- Total freedom. Weather packed in? Head to the sun. Found a spot you love? Stay a while. With no itinerary to stick to, all you need is a full tank of petrol to do exactly as you please.
- Spur-of-the-moment fun. If you wake up one morning feeling like a mini break, you could be on your way by lunchtime. No need to book ahead –just pack up and go!
- While flights and train travel are getting very inexpensive, those nights at a motel or hotel can add up quickly. Then there are all the meals you have to eat at restaurants – breakfast, lunch and dinner, sometimes – which can put a major dent in the pocket. When you’ve brought your own bed, kitchen and fridge, the only time you eat at a restaurant is when you feel like a splurge. And an added bonus – by cooking at home you’ll avoid packing on those holiday-eating pounds.
- Join an amazing campervan community – you’ll never know who’ll you’ll bump into at motorcamps. All around NZ there are wonderful people who love campervanning as much as you do. A comfy chat over a barbecue dinner could turn into some life-long friends – when have you ever gotten that from a motel?
- Take your furry friends – no need for a pet hotel, put your furry pals in the back and get going. They’ll love coming along and you’ll save yourself a pretty penny.
Of course, campervanning comes with a few practical issues – getting those right is key to having a great experience. That’s why we’re putting together a total, end-to-end guide to help you get out on the road.
Look out for the first in the motor homing series!
